Biography of Lorne R. Gibson Chief Electoral Officer of Alberta

Lorne R. Gibson

Lorne Gibson was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Psychology and Sociology and Master of Arts degree majoring in Sociology from the University of Manitoba. He then attended the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Alberta for three years as a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology. He has taught various undergraduate courses in sociology, criminology, research methods and statistics over a 15-year period at the Universities of Alberta, Manitoba and Winnipeg.

Mr. Gibson was employed by the provincial government in Manitoba for 25 years, working in progressively more senior management positions with the Department of Government Services and the Department of Highways and Transportation. He held positions as Coordinator of Planning and Research with the Emergency Measures Organization; Manager of Policy, Legislation and Research with Driver and Vehicle Licensing; Director of Corporate Services with the Transportation Policy Division; and Executive Director of Administration with Government Services. Prior to joining Elections Alberta, Mr. Gibson was the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer with Elections Manitoba.

Outside of work, Mr. Gibson enjoys golf, tennis, skiing, cooking, magic, reading and home renovations. He has participated as a board member with a number of volunteer organizations. He has four children - Landon, Lane, Lauren and Liam.
