Writ has been issued for the Brooks-Medicine Hat By Election

EDMONTON – Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer, Glen Resler, confirms that a writ was issued today to administer a by-election in Brooks-Medicine Hat to elect a member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
The Chief Electoral Officer has the authority, under sections 9(1) and 47(1) of the Election Act to appoint returning officers and election clerks. These officers play a vital role in the fair and impartial management of provincial general elections and by-elections.
“Appointments have been made for the returning officer and election clerk in Brooks-Medicine Hat and they are ready to conduct voting in the electoral division,” said Resler.
ELECTION DAY IS NOVEMBER 8, 2022
Voter Eligibility
Canadian citizens who are at least 18 years of age on election day are eligible to vote if they are an ordinary resident of the electoral division. Electors who are uncertain if they reside in the electoral division of Brooks-Medicine Hat can use the “Where Do I Vote” tool on the Elections Alberta website to determine their eligibility.
Voter Registration
An elector with an Alberta’s Driver’s License or an Alberta Identification Card may register online at www.voterlink.ab.ca until October 26, 2022. To register to vote at an advance voting location or on election day, electors must provide authorized identification, which contains their name and shows a residential address in the electoral division. A list of authorized identification can be found on the Elections Alberta website (click “Voters” and then “ID Required to Vote”).
Electors who are already registered to vote at their current residential address do not need to register again.
Key Timelines
Electors have 28 days to vote by Special Ballot beginning today. Special Ballots may be completed in the returning office, picked up by a designate of the elector, or mailed to the elector anywhere in the world. Applications can be submitted online on the Elections Alberta website (click “2022 By-Election” and then “Apply for a Special Ballot”).
Candidate nominations are now open and end on October 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.
Advance voting begins on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, and ends on Saturday, November 5, 2022.
Election Day is November 8, 2022. All polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Unofficial results will be available after voting closes on Election Day.
Official results will be announced on November 18, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.

There are 34,060 electors in Brooks-Medicine Hat. The percentage of voter turnout in the 2019 Provincial General Election for Brooks-Medicine Hat was 65.6% in comparison to the provincial voter turnout of 67.5%.
