Amendments to Provincial Electoral Legislation Now in Force
July 04, 2025

EDMONTON – Today, amendments to electoral legislation introduced in Bill 54: Election Statutes Amendment Act came into force.
Bill 54 impacts all provincial electoral legislation. The following fact sheets have been prepared to summarize the changes in each individual Act.
“My office is evaluating the amendments and their impacts to provincial electoral events and operational processes, including supporting electors’ and political participants’ awareness and participation,” said Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure. “We remain committed to fulfilling Elections Alberta’s mandate to administer fair, inclusive, and impartial electoral events in compliance with legislation.”
The scale and scope of changes significantly impact all Election Alberta processes and operations, and as such, it will take some time for revisions to be completed. While that work is underway, a notice will indicate which webpage content requires updating to reflect the new legislation. As changes are finalized, website content and resources, as applicable, will be updated and the notices removed.
Elections Alberta is an independent, non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta responsible for administering provincial elections, by-elections, and referendums.
