Elections Alberta Releases 2024-2025 Annual Report and Lethbridge-West By-election Report

EDMONTON – Today, the Chief Electoral Officer, Gordon McClure, released the 2024-2025 Annual Report, and his report on the 2024 By-election for Lethbridge-West.
Pursuant to section 4(2) of the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act and section 4(7) of the Election Act, the 2024-2025 Annual Report highlights:
- Key activity drivers and strategic performance, including progress reporting on strategic objectives;
- Complaints and investigations conducted under the authority of the Election Commissioner; and,
- Financial statements for the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer.

In accordance with the provisions of section 4(5) of the Election Act, the 2024 By-election Report for Lethbridge-West is the Chief Electoral Officer’s report on the by-election in Electoral Division 72 held on December 18, 2024, following a 28-day election period. Highlights include:
- A total of 13,615 electors voted in the by-election, resulting in a voter turnout of 36.0% (compared to 61.5% in Lethbridge-West in the 2023 Provincial General Election).
- The by-election had a total cost of $415,180, or ~$10.98 per registered elector in Lethbridge-West.
- Preparation activities, event costs, financial disclosures of political participants, and detailed electoral division results and maps.
- Official results were announced on December 28, 2024. Mr. Rob Miyashiro, representing the Alberta New Democratic Party, was duly elected.
