Edmonton EXPO Centre Advance voting location special instructions for Friday, October 16

October 15, 2026

EDMONTON — Elections Alberta is aware there is an event hosted by Forever Canadian scheduled for the arena at the Edmonton EXPO Centre on Friday, Oct. 16.

Elections Alberta does have an Advance Vote location for Electoral District 34 at Hall H at the EXPO Centre, which was secured August 26, 2026. The Advance Vote location at the EXPO Centre will be in operation all five days of advance voting, October 13-17, from 9:00am to 8:00pm daily.

Elections Alberta is working alongside EXPO Centre and has already taken steps to mitigate the risk of referendum advertising occurring at the voting place. This includes management of the parking area, the entrance to the EXPO Centre used by electors accessing the advance voting place, and physical barriers within the EXPO Centre.

Forever Canadian did contact Elections Alberta to receive clear guidance and make sure they were in compliance with the legislation for this event. At large, multi-location venues such as the EXPO Centre, the entire building is not designated as a voting place.  Section 135(2) of the Election Act states that advertising restrictions apply only to the area designated as a voting place.

The area designated as the voting place in accordance with section 135(2) includes the parking area immediately outside of the advance voting location, the entryway closest to the advanced voting location, and the area within the building where the advance voting is being conducted. No referendum advertising is permitted to take place in the voting place, and Elections Alberta staff will ensure compliance with these provisions.

Election staff and electors will be accessing the advance voting location using Entrances 1 and 2 (East end of the EXPO Centre).

The event organizers have been asked to avoid parking areas, parking entrance, building entrances, and interior areas that will be used by or are immediately adjacent to areas required by electors visiting that voting location on Friday.

Electors using this voting location should also note that parking for the purposes of voting is free while electors are there to vote only. To aid with accessibility, there are six parking spaces designated for electors only right at the entrance. Additional parking staff and site monitors will be on-site Friday.
