Constitutional Referendum on Equalization – October 18, 2021

The Order in Council to conduct a constitutional referendum on equalization was issued on August 9, 2021. The referendum vote took place in conjunction with the 2021 Alberta Municipal Elections. The referendum question asked electors:

Should section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 – Parliament and the government of Canada’s commitment to the principle of making equalization payments – be removed from the constitution?

Electors could vote “yes” or “no” on the question.
61.7% of electors (642,501) voted yes. 38.3% (399,169) voted no.

Referendum on Daylight Saving Time – October 18, 2021

The Order in Council to conduct a referendum on daylight saving time was issued on August 9, 2021. The referendum vote took place in conjunction with the 2021 Alberta Municipal Elections. The referendum question asked electors:

Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?

Electors could vote “yes” or “no” on the question.
48.8% of electors (531,782) voted yes. 50.2% of electors (536,874) voted no.
