Advance voter turnout for the Calgary-Shaw By-election

EDMONTON – Preliminary voter turnout figures are now available for the advance vote held Tuesday, September 8, to Saturday, September 12, for the Calgary-Shaw by-election.

The following table provides advance voter turnout for the by-election, as well as the comparative numbers from the 2023 Provincial General Election.

Monday, September 14 is Election Day. Voting locations will be open from 9:00am to 8:00pm.  Every elector is assigned a voting location based on their ordinary place of residence. On Election Day, electors may only vote at their assigned voting location.

Voters who did not already vote during advance voting can find their assigned Election Day voting location by:

  • checking the Where to Vote card mailed to their residence,
  • visiting map.elections.ab.ca,
  • visiting elections.ab.ca (click on “Where Do I Vote?”), or
  • contacting Elections Alberta at 1.877.422.VOTE (8683) for assistance.

Key Dates

  • Monday, September 14 – Election Day. All voting places will be open from 9:00am to 8:00pm.
  • Unofficial results will be available on Elections Alberta’s website after voting closes on Election Day.
  • Official results will be announced on Thursday, September 24.

Voter Eligibility

Canadian citizens who are at least 18 years of age or older on Election Day are eligible to vote if they are an ordinary resident of the Calgary-Shaw electoral division. If you are unsure if you reside in the Calgary-Shaw electoral division, use the “Where to Vote” tool on the Elections Alberta website to determine your eligibility. If you are not, you will receive a message that says you reside outside the electoral division and are not eligible to vote in the by-election.

Voter Registration

Electors can register to vote at their assigned voting place on Election Day. Electors who are already registered to vote at their current address do not need to register again.

Voter Identification

To vote in the by-election, electors must prove their identity and current physical address. There are more than 50 ways to do this, including:

  • Providing one piece of Government-issued photo ID, including the voter’s full name, current physical address, and a photo.
  • Providing two pieces of ID, both containing the voter’s full name and one showing their current physical address (e.g., a utility bill, etc.).
  • Having an authorized signatory complete an attestation form.

Voters may visit elections.ab.ca/voters/id-required-to-vote for a full list of accepted identification.

Media wishing to access a voting place to gather footage may make arrangements with the local returning office.

  • Weekdays from 9:00am to 6:00pm;
  • Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm; and
